How to Find the Perfect Yoga Studio for Your Practice Journey

Published March 25, 2026 05:55AM For the longest time, I liked the idea of yoga but hated the actual practice. That was, until I realized my aversion had less to do with yoga itself and more to do with the yoga studio where I was practicing. One of my first classes was a hot yoga session in a sweltering room with no windows. I knew something was off when the teacher discouraged anyone from leaving the 100-degree space or drinking waterand especially when he started going around the room loudly shaming beginners for their incorrect alignment. “You do realize you’re doing Downward Dog completely wrong?” he sneered beside my mat before aggressively pulling my hips back without consent. The nitpicking continued for the rest of the class. I left feeling embarrassed and defeated. I figured yoga just wasn’t my thing. It wasn’t until I tried practicing it again a decade later, in a completely different setting, that I realized how much the right studio, style, and teachers matter. 6 Underrated Strategies to Amplify Your Yoga Teaching Cues Effectively

Updated March 24, 2026 11:08AM When I started yoga teacher training, I assumed that learning how to cue poses would be the easy part. Talking seemed simple compared to learning alignment, memorizing anatomy, understanding sequencing, and conveying the history and philosophy of the practice. After all, I’d been listening to yoga teachers talk during class for years. How challenging could it be? Very challenging, as it turns out. Standing in front of students while I was trying to recall the names of poses and share clear instructions on how to move their bodies was a struggle. Eventually, I learned helpful yoga cues for various poses as well as how to string them together during a fast-paced class. But I also learned that what teachers want to share with students isn’t always what students take away from the experience. Yoga cues can literally determine the difference between someone leaving class feeling empowered or frustrated. So over the last decade, I’ve explored different ways to keep cues helpful—concise yet compelling, informative as well as interesting—in ways that help ensure what students hear tracks more closely with what you mean. How to Exponentially Improve Your Yoga Cues No matter what style of yoga

Why is kundalini yoga dangerous?

You know how the internet can take a real, intense experience and turn it into a blanket warning like “kundalini yoga is dangerous”?

That reaction usually comes from one thing: people try powerful kundalini yoga techniques, especially breathwork and long meditative holds, before their nervous system is ready for the volume.

Kundalini yoga can be supportive and meditative. It can also feel destabilizing if you push too hard, practice alone, or have untreated anxiety, trauma, or other mental health conditions.
